GUIDELINES

Adult volunteers do not pay a fee to participate in Work Camp.  We believe that the gift of your time and effort is price enough and we cover all of the associated costs of your participation with funds collected as part of the student camper fee.

Required Adult Volunteers and Gofers each receive a themed FCWC T-Shirt.  All other Adult Volunteers are able to purchase one for $10 at the time of their application.  Volunteers who are at a Home Base church when breakfast or dinner is served are invited to join the meal.  Lunches are provided to adults serving over lunchtime if they are volunteering on Worksite, Sidewalk Club, Sport Camps or Agency Support.

Every camp has rules, and we are no different.  Here is what you need to know about volunteering with Work Camp:

BACKGROUND CHECK

Every adult who participates in Work Camp will undergo a background check every two years.  The purpose of the background check is to ensure the safety of the student campers and those we are interacting with in the community, as well as your suitability to provide transportation if your volunteer role requires it.  Information collected during your online application, along with your consent, will be used to run the background check with our vendor, Protect My Ministry.  We will manage whether or not a check from a previous year is still valid and will re-run your background check as necessary.  If you have questions regarding this step or need to make a declaration prior to your background check being run, please contact our Registration Coordinator at helpdesk@flowercityworkcamp.org.

YOUTH PROTECTION PROGRAM

The next level of safety we provide for our student participants is to train each of our adult volunteers in our Youth Protection Program.  This program outlines what appropriate behavior with our student campers is, what the minimum amount of supervision or adult to student ratios are and provides a reporting process for any violations.  Each adult volunteer will be asked to read the Youth Protection Program training materials and take a short quiz during their online application to certify they understand and will act in compliance with our policy.

CODE OF CONDUCT

Beginning in the Fall of 2023, all adult volunteers and student campers will be asked to read and adhere to the Flower City Outreach Code of Conduct.  It outlines how we each conduct ourselves inside of the ministry and as a representative of Flower City Work Camp.  The Code of Conduct will be shared during the online application process and you will be asked to electronically sign.
