ALL OTHER VOLUNTEERS

This is the catch-all designation for all of the other volunteer areas where adults serve that aren’t Required, Lunch Coordinator or Overnight Leaders.  Inside of the “all other” area are a wide range or volunteers areas that adult volunteers can serve within, either one time in a week or all week long.

Home Base Team – The Home Base Team helps with student registration, is the traffic management area for communications and issue resolution, the lost & found and the catch all group at the host church that keeps Work Camp running on time and effectively.  All disciplinary actions run through this team as well.  Home Base volunteers also coordinate for the home owner gifts we present at the end of the week through the Worksite teams, coordinate with the city for trash pickups and other miscellaneous tasks.  This team is great for those talented in conflict resolution, logistics and administration.

Registration Team – The Registration Team manages the online application process, maintains our internal systems, processes data and reports for our leaders and manages/tracks student camper fee payments.  This is a very behind-the-scenes team that we rely on heavily to keep things running smoothly ahead of Work Camp.

Medical Team – The Medical Team operates around the clock at Home Base to screen for illness at registration, administer medications, treat injuries and assist student campers who become ill.  Team members are medical professionals (LPN, CRN, PA, MD) who volunteer their time and expertise to ensure our student campers are cared for.

Worksite Gofer – Just like the name suggests, these folks “Go For” stuff.  Worksite leaders aren’t allowed to leave their sites during the day.  So, when they need something to complete the job, this team of Gofers save the day.  Can you go pick up a dishwasher from the warehouse?  Can you get me box of nails?  Can you get me two more gallons of paint?  Can you take those nails back and get screws instead?  You get the idea.  There is a lot of driving and delivering, but most Gofers report back that they love seeing all of the different projects taking place and seeing the kids hard at work at every stop.  Plus, all their purchases are reimbursed!

Worksite Roving Expert – To support the Worksite Teams, we have a team of Roving Experts who float and travel to the more difficult jobs to lend assistance or get called in when what started as a small project gets out of hand.  In many cases these Roving Experts are themselves professional tradesmen – carpenters, plumbers, masons – but some are just accomplished handymen who lend a hand where needed.  These volunteers don’t lead teams of students, they go work on the more demanding projects and will guide students from time to time.

Worksite Screener – Each year Flower City Work Camp receives upwards of 150 referrals for homes that need work, but need to narrow that to the 25-30 that we will actually work on.  Each referred home is screened in December & January ahead of Work Camp to assess the needs and see if that home is a good fit for the format and resources we have available.  Homes are scored by the Screeners, who report back to the Worksite Director.  Homes that aren’t a good fit are then referred to FCWC Weekend Edition for possible single-day work projects that take place throughout the year.

Kitchen Team – We have openings during the week for food prep, cooks, dishwashers, servers and clean-up volunteers.  Student campers and Required Leaders eat four breakfasts and three dinners at the host church during the week, and usually one awesome ice cream bar!  There are many different shifts available for those willing to help.

Merch Shop Team – Work Camp has its own branded apparel, hats, water bottles, stickers and more.  Each evening during the program time the store opens for purchases to be made.  Volunteers on this team facilitate the transactions, keep track of the inventory and please their customers with great service.

Snack Shop Team – Yes, we serve meals to the students at Work Camp.  But, these teenagers have amazing appetites.  So, we run a snack shop in the evenings to help meet the students’ caloric needs.  Why we feed them sugar before bed we’ll never know, but they seem to enjoy it.

Audio/Visual & Production Team – The morning and evening program times are pretty amazing, and it takes a great group of volunteers to run the lights, cameras, sound board and other technical aspects of the production.  Training is available if this is new to you!

Worship Team – There is usually a worship band or collective that is formed before Work Camp that performs music each evening.  For the morning sessions, sometimes there is a separate worship band or a rotation of bands that help us start off the day.  These teams are usually recruited or approached intentionally well in advance.

Prayer Team – This team plays two amazing roles.  First, they spent time praying for Work Camp for months leading up to the even, focusing on areas of concern, for the students’ growth and for protection over the ministry.  Second, they are present each evening to pray in an intercessory capacity and sometimes even pray with students.

Cleaning Team – The Cleaning Team comes in on the last half-day of Work Camp to assist the host church facility team to do a deep clean of the church facility.  After hundreds of teens living, sleeping and showering in the building for a week, it needs a solid clean-up so it can resume its normal operation.

Digital Media Team – The Digital Media team helps capture and spread the message of what goes on during Work Camp (since we take the campers’ phones away at the start of the week).  This entails photography, videography, Facebook and Instagram posts, in addition to the famously awesome recap videos that are shared at the end of Work Camp.  Opportunities also exist for website support.

Warehouse Team – The Warehouse Team manages our storage facility on Lisle Avenue.  They take in donated items, maintain the categorization and placement of items and help various teams access their equipment and take out supplies for their projects.  We are grateful to Buckingham Properties for gifting this space to FCWC.
